Life Story for Velma Ryals

Mrs. Velma Gilley Ryals, age 95, a resident of Ashford, died early Sunday June 14, 2015 at her residence after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Antioch Baptist Church with Reverend’s Danny Bynum and Homer Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Kendall Glover directing.

The family will be receiving friends from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Flowers will be accepted.

Mrs. Ryals was born on January 20, 1920 in Wicksburg the daughter of Wiley Howard Gilley and Lillie Viola Williams Gilley. She was retired from farming and had lived in the Ashford area for the past 35 years. Mrs. Ryals was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Otis Ryals; 3 grandchildren; 3 sisters and 6 brothers.

Survivors include: daughter, Syble Harper (David), Ashford; son, William Ryals (Dorothy), Ashford; 5 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be: Ronnie Brannon, Steven Strength, William Strength, Ritchie Odom, Gary Harper and Wayne Bloodsworth.
