Life Story for Elsbeth Ivey Barrick

Mrs. Elsbeth Ivey Barrick died unexpectedly on Friday, November 25, 2016 in Luverne at the age of 94.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday November 28, 2016 at Gardens of Memory Cemetery (Hwy. 431 North) with Reverend Allie Freeman officiating and Kendall Glover directing.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Dothan Area Botanical Garden, 5130 Headland Avenue, Dothan, AL. 36303.

Mrs. Barrick was born in Cottonwood on December 7, 1921 and grew up on the family farm in Webb. She attended Alabama College, now the University of Montevallo, graduating with a BS degree in Home Economics and General Science. After graduating she worked for one year as a Home Economics teacher in Newville before marrying George Milton Barrick. Her life was devoted to caring for her five children and nine grandchildren. Affectionally called Meemee by her grandchildren, she was an avid gardener, seamstress and lover of birds.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George Milton Barrick, siblings, Melborn Ivey, Marshall Ivey, and Eunice Ivey; daughter, Jane Barrick Wright and daughter-in-law, Ann Barrick.

Survivors include: brother, Ivan Ivey (Betty) and her children, Georgia Bush (Jerry), Bill Barrick (Jessica), Joe Barrick and Moody Barrick (Robin). She was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
