Obituary for Alexandra K. Doussa (Kontopoulos)

Alexandra (Sandra) Kontopoulos Doussa, 95, passed away in Dothan, Alabama January 15, 2022.

Born in Mobile on July 11, 1926, Sandy spent her first 37 years in Mobile and “across the Bay” on the Malbis Plantation, before marrying and moving to New Orleans. She was a lifelong member of the Greek Orthodox Church and the Daughters of Penelope.

In her 20-year professional life in Mobile, Sandra was a skilled stenographer and meticulous law and architectural assistant and then, in New Orleans, after a hiatus to raise her family, she assumed managerial and bookkeeping responsibilities for G&M Electric Company for 25 years, before her retirement at 75. Following Hurricane Katrina, near 80, Sandy relocated to Dothan, where she developed exceptionally deep bonds with her new neighbors and friends.

Sandra was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Achileas Milton Doussa, her parents, Efstratios and Sophia Kontopoulos, her uncle, Paraskos Kontopoulos, and her beloved twin sister, Despina K. Pappas.

She is survived by her children Mark Alexander Doussa (Alecia) and Stephanie Patricia Doussa (Vivian M. Cabrera); her nieces, Frances O. Pappas and Sophia G. Pappas, and nephew William S. Pappas; grandchildren, Donna Marie Doussa, Robin Elizabeth Doussa (Ryan Rodgers), Thomas Joseph Doussa, Katherine Elizabeth Doussa, Isabella Rose Alexandra Doussa; grandnieces and nephew Virginia M. Diavolitsis, Anastasia S. Diavolitsis, George W. Pappas II; great grandchildren Dominique, Denyelle, and Desalyn Burley, Lily Davidson, Riley Rodgers; great grandnieces and nephews Julia, Alexander, Sebastian, and Audrey: and great great-grandchildren Kash, Kylie, and Kohl Burley. Sandra’s family and friends admired her resiliency and attention to detail, and will miss her keen artistic abilities, gourmet cooking and baking, and impeccable handwriting.

A funeral service and interment were held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the Malbis Memorial Church and Cemetery in Daphne, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Sandra’s memory to the Holy Trinity Cathedral’s Archives, 1200 Robert E. Lee Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70122.
