Obituary for Benton F. Harrison
Benton Foy “Bug” Harrison, a lifelong resident of Dothan, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Southeast Health. He was 78.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Lynn S. Nesbitt officiating. A private family graveside will be held at Memory Hill Cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. on Saturday prior to service time.
Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to one’s favorite charity.
Mr. Harrison was born December 29, 1944 in Dothan to G. M. (Mort) Harrison, Sr. and Dorothy Foy Harrison. He was a 1963 graduate of Dothan High School and attended Marion Military Institute. In 1968, he graduated from the University of Alabama where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He served proudly as Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, mainly in Okinawa during the Vietnam era. Mr. Harrison was retired from the City of Dothan where he worked for 30 years prior to his retirement. His two favorite pastimes were fishing and watching Alabama football. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Harrison is predeceased by his parents and brother, G. M. (Tim) Harrison, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Beth Collins Harrison of Dothan; sons, Stuart M. Harrison of Montgomery, Gary S. Harrison and wife, Sonja of Dothan, Travis J. Harrison of Dothan; a grandson, Christian M. Harrison of Dothan; beloved cousins, Quick Foy of Nashville, TN and John M. Forrester of Dothan; numerous friends also survive.
