Obituary for Betty Eugenia Russell (Jones)

Monday night, December 7, 2020, our mom, Betty Russell received her wings and is walking with the angels. She met them face to face after a brief illness at the age of 91.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Mt. Zion Independent Baptist Church Cemetery in Cottonwood with Pastor Richard Smith officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.

Betty was born January 4, 1929 in Adel, Georgia and lived the early years of her life there. She later was employed with Goody Hair products for many years and was a 1980 graduate of Bethany Bible College. Betty was a proud member of Calvary Baptist Church where she and her deceased husband, Jim were loved and prayed for daily by its loving members. Especially Pastor Richard Smith, who was always available to bring God’s love and strength to them. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Cottonwood.

She is predeceased by her husband, Jim Russell, her parents, Manning and Lilla Jones; all eight of her siblings, her son, Dennis Hancock and her grandchildren, Brian and Anna Hancock and the children’s father, Oris Hancock.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jenny (David) Barwick of Meigs, Georgia, Susan Foister of Bainbridge, Georgia, Dianne (Howard) Tyson of Thomasville, Georgia, Linda (Raymon) Meadows of Gordon and Leonard (Linda) Hancock of Lake Havasu, Arizona; 15 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to especially thank the Southern Care Hospice staff for all their loving care, especially her nurses, Carla, Linda, Jessica and Chaplain Kathy.
