Obituary for Bobby Gene Duke

Bobby Gene Duke, 85, a lifetime resident of Cottonwood, passed away Friday, September 11, 2020.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm, Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Earl Clark and Hospice Chaplain Kevin Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Howard Grove Cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 pm until 2:45 pm prior to service time. The family wishes for everyone to remain safe and that all social distancing and masking guidelines be observed. They would love for you to dress casually and wear your Alabama shirt if you have one.

Mr. Duke was born February 18, 1935 in Cottonwood, Alabama to Albert Arthur and Katie Clyde Bodiford Duke with a palsy and learning disability. He attended Cottonwood Elementary School and went through the 5th grade where his teacher Mrs. Goff, taught him the essentials that would help him throughout life. Bobby grew up on the farm, working with his family farming peanuts, cotton, corn, cows and hogs. He married his soulmate, Frances, at a young age and has been married for 66 faithful years. At the age of 18 he began his farming career which he continued until his retirement. He was a member of Howard Grove Baptist Church from an early age. Bobby loved fishing and football! He was an avid Alabama Football fan and rarely missed a game in his recliner decked out in his Alabama attire. ROLL TIDE!

He is predeceased by his parents, a sister, Annette Blohm and a brother-in-law, Jack Blohm.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Ira Brooks Duke of Cottonwood; a son, Robert Duke of Cottonwood; a daughter, Carolyn Duke Elliott (Chan) of Cottonwood; seven grandchildren, Christi (Dennis) Peterson, Chandler Elliott, Jr. (Amy), Clay Elliott (Jesslyn), Dusty Duke (Kim), Timothy Duke (Kendra), B. J. Duke (Erin), and Latasha Duke White (Rob), seventeen great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; many special nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be: Tee Davis, Dylan Cook, Dennis Peterson, Rob White, Taylor Duke, JC Peterson, Jason Manning and Octavius Hardwick.

Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
