Obituary for Catherine Waid
Catherine Adams Waid, of Dothan, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019, after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2019, at First United Methodist Church in Dothan with Dr. James B. Sanders III officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church parlor one hour prior to the service.
Catherine was born to Charlie and Willela Adams September 8, 1929, in Montgomery, Alabama. She graduated from Dothan High School in 1946 and attended Huntingdon College before graduating from Auburn University.
Catherine was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church and served in various lay positions with the church, while being especially active in the Children's Department. She was also involved with the Dothan Service League, Bridge Club, and the Wiregrass Area Food Bank.
Catherine is predeceased by her husband, H. Allen Waid, and her parents. She is survived by her three children, Celeste Cooper (Marion), Charles Waid (Amy), Catherine Johnson (Chuck), thirteen grandchildren, Amanda Turvin, Catie Cooper, Rinnie Cooper, Callie Fold (Eric), Tommy Cooper, Sydney Carter (Cole), Claire Waid, Ella Pruitt, Lillie Pruitt, Paul Pearce, Brooks Pearce, Jessica Kohn (Brandon), Charlie Johnson, and six great-grandchildren. Catherine is also survived by her sisterly cousin, Ann Morton, cousins Edward Witherington, Charlotte Adams Reeves, and Joe Adams, along with many other cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family would also like to express their deepest gratitude to her caregivers, Beverly Severson, Robbie Davis, LaWanda Graham, and Vanessa Williams.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Respite Care Ministry at First United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Resource Center of Dothan.
