Obituary

Curtis Leon Hillman, Sr., a resident of Dothan, Alabama, went to be with his Lord surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama. He was 72.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2019 in the chapel at First United Methodist Church in Dothan, AL with Reverend Allie Freeman officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
Curtis was born October 6, 1946 in Massachusetts. Curtis was a 1966 graduate of Dothan High School. He was a Vietnam War veteran, where he earned a Purple Heart for his service. Curtis spent many years at Farley Nuclear Plant and retired as the chief of security.
After retirement, Curtis was an avid outdoorsman. He completed his first trek of the Appalachian Trail in 1998 but would return many times to this trail. He also bicycled from California to Florida, hiked the Pacific Crest Trail and Florida Trail, kayaked the Missouri River, and canoed the Mississippi River. By all accounts, the trail name “Wolfhound” is still spoken of in many hiking circles. He was most alive and happy when planning his numerous adventures, walking the trails, or regaling people with stories of his travels.
Curtis was proceeded in death by his parents, Robert and Virginia Hillman, Sr., and his brother, Robert Hillman, Jr.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Darlene Hillman, of Dothan, AL; his children: Curtis Hillman, Jr. (Michelle) of Abbeville, AL; Sarah Hillman Whitman (Shawn) of Tallahassee, FL; Ashley Wilson of Tallahassee, FL; sister, Deborah Hillman of Saint Louis, MO; nephews, Robert Hillman, III (Terri) of Dothan, AL and Heath Hillman; niece, Crystal Moeglin Burns (Tyler) of Saint Louis, MO; five grandchildren; and lifelong best friend, Larry McKay of Dothan, AL.
Glover Funeral Home of Dothan has been entrusted with the arrangements. (334) 699-3888. Please sign the guestbook online at www.gloverfuneral.com

Curtis was a good hiking friend as well as a good friend at Farley. I will always remember "Wolfhound's" 2001 Pacific Crest Trail hike.
Please accept my deepest condolences, cherish the fond memories and always keep in mind that we will all be together again.

Uncle Curtis lived life to the fullest with excellence and modesty all in one. Superstar running back, Purple Heart recipient, Legendary hiker, Conqueror of rivers, and Friend to all. Curtis would give the shirt off his back and offer his home if he could make a difference. And he did just that. Truly one of the finest men I have ever known. A life well lived and one to be proud of. All my love Uncle Curt.

Uncle Curtis had the kindest heart. From as early as I can remember at our family gatherings , Curtis would always ask about my school subjects or sports teams and say the the most genuine things and smile . I knew he really was listening and cared . I always enjoyed hearing about all his trips, swimming in the indoor pool, going up to the country club, and all his healthy recipe tips. He was loved by many and will certainly be missed . Love you , Rest in peace. Crystal Moeglin Burns
