Obituary for Gwendolyn Munson (Harris)

Gwendolyn J. Harris Munson, a resident of Dothan, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, August 31st, 2021 at the age of 84. She was born on July 2, 1937, to her late parents, Methodist minister, Thomas Summerfield Harris and Mattie Maye Day Harris.

Gwen graduated from Dothan High School in 1955, where she was voted ''Best Dressed'' by her senior class. She attended Asbury College and graduated from Huntington College in Montgomery in 1959, where she majored in Sociology and was an avid member of the Chorale choir.

She later enjoyed working as a public school librarian in Jacksonville, FL, and Rehoboth Elementary, near Dothan, where she retired after many years of loving her work.

Gwen was a devout Christian and had a deep love for her church, her family, and her friends. She faithfully led the Women's Circle Bible study group for many years at First Presbyterian Church.

Gwen dedicated much of her adult life to caring for her parents. After they passed, she was 55 when she met the love of her life, Richard Munson. The two were married and cherished and supported each other for 30 years. Gwen had a love for travel and adventure. She used to say, ''You be the G and I'll be the O!''

Gwen's family, church family, and friends would like to thank the loving caregivers who blessed her life after she lost Richard in January of 2018.

Gwen is survived by Richard's two children, Ronnie Lynn Munson and Linda Munson Fiveash (Rickey), who loved and cared for Gwen, five grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her six maternal cousins, Eva Fountain, Lynda McAlpin, Billie Todd, Jamie Welch, Jack Rainey, and Grace Manon Harris.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Youth Mission Fund of the First Presbyterian Church, 3012 West Main St. Dothan, AL 36305, because she was so appreciative of the time and love she received from the First Presbyterian Church family.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 7th at 10 am at Memory Hill Cemetery, 2414 Hartford Highway, Dothan, AL.

The family requests that all masking and social distancing guidelines be observed.
