The family will receive friends following the graveside service.

James was born June 6, 1932, in Albemarle, NC. James worked at Cummings Diesel in Charlotte, NC for 30 years and retired from Action Truck Center where he worked as a diesel mechanic for 11 years. He was most proud of being a proud patriot and a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict where he achieved the rank of corporal. He was a proud member of Calvary Baptist Church where he and Betty were loved and prayed for daily by its loving members, especially Pastor Richard Smith, who was always available to bring God’s love and strength to them.

He is predeceased by his parents Walter and Millie Russell, his brothers Marshall, Charlie and Floyd; his stepson Dennis Hancock and grandchildren Brian and Anna Hancock.

He will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife of 35 years, Betty Jones Russell and his 4 stepchildren: Jenny (David) Barwick, Susan Foister, Diane (Howard) Tyson, Linda (Raymon) Meadows; 15 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

We would like to especially thank the Southern Care Hospice for all their love and care, especially his nurses-“his two Linda’s”: Linda Lightner and Linda Pouncey.
