Obituary for Joseph M. Burge

Joseph Michael Burge, 49, of Cottonwood, formerly of Lexington, IL passed away at Southeast Health on Saturday, November 30, 2019.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Calvary Baptist Church in Cottonwood with Reverend Richard Smith officiating and Glover Funeral Home of Dothan, Alabama directing.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital, American Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor’s choice in honor of Joe.

Joe was born on July 12, 1970 in Sarasota, FL. His family moved to Lexington, IL in 1978 where they made their home. Joe was a 1989 Lexington High School graduate where he found his passion for cooking in Mrs. Gill’s home economics class. He went on to be the main cook at Main Street Pizza till he and his family followed his dad to Florida in 1995. He then moved to Alabama to be with his new wife, Marsha. Joe pursued many careers but nothing made him happier than manning a grill.

He is survived by his wife of eleven years, Marsha Dutton Burge, Cottonwood, AL; his sister, Debbie (Steve) Johnson, IL; 2 step-sons Curtis (Candace) Garvin, FL, Trahern (Angel Birge) Eggen, FL, 2 step-daughters Elaine (Pete) Parkinson, Ohio, Brittany Dollar Burge, Cottonwood, AL; his mother-in-law Ruby Dutton, Cottonwood, AL; sister-in-law Donna (Gene “Rhino”) Coleman; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael & Pauline Burge, his father- in-law Carl “Poppie” Dutton, grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
