Obituary for Kimberly Elaine McNeill (Knowles)

Kimberly Knowles McNeill, 47, a resident of Dothan, passed Sunday, July 19, 2020 at U.A.B. Hospital.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at 3:30 pm at Travelers Rest Cemetery in Samson with Reverend Kyle Gatlin officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, July 22, 2020 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Covenant United Methodist Church. The family wishes for everyone to remain safe and all social distancing and masking guidelines be observed.

Kim was passionate about her work with special needs, and spent much of her career specializing in students with autism spectrum disorders. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made in her memory to: The Autism Society of Alabama, Kim McNeill Memorial, 4260 Cahaba Heights Court Suite 188, Birmingham, Alabama, 35243. 100% of the donations will be designated to support families impacted by autism disorders in the Wiregrass area.

Kim was born October 30, 1972 in Auburn to James Wilton and Madelyn Baxley Knowles, Jr. She graduated from Geneva High School and earned her Masters’ Degree in Special Education from Troy University. She taught special education in Geneva and Dothan City Schools, specializing in the teaching of autistic children.

Kim is predeceased by her father, her mother-in-law, Lovie McNeill, and a nephew Brent McNeill.

Survivors include her husband Sidney McNeill; her daughter Maddie Claire McNeill; her mother, Madelyn B. Knowles of Geneva; a brother Lee Knowles (Jane) of Geneva; father-in-law Bennie McNeill of Kinsey; brother-in-law Steven McNeill (Lisa) of Dothan; nieces Natalie Knowles and Jade Mathis; and nephews Wil Knowles , Jarrod Mathis and Tyler McNeill.

Pallbearers will be Britt Finch, John Ross Finch, Mark Anderson, Wil Knowles, Sam Gay and Phil Sullivan.
