Obituary for Paul Angeloff

Paul Angeloff of Dothan, died at home, August 2, 2022.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Dothan, Sunday, August 7, 2022, at 3:00 PM, with Dr. David R. Saliba officiating. The family will greet friends in the church parlor prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00.

A native of Rock Island, Illinois, he is survived by, his wife of 61 years, Dolores; sons, Paul Douglas Angeloff, of Mancelona, Michigan and Jason Lee Angeloff (Wesley, favorite daughter-in-law) of Dothan; grandsons, Douglas Hardy Angeloff, Jason Thomas Angeloff, Paul Tanner Angeloff, McCollough (Mac) Edge, and sister-in-law, Barbara Hunter.

During his employment as Vice President & General Manager of the Chattahoochee Industrial Railroad, Cedar Springs, GA, he served as both the President of the Blakely-Early County Chamber of Commerce and the Blakely Rotary Club. He was a participant in Leadership Georgia.

Named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Dothan Rotary Club, he was awarded an Honorary Membership when his health no longer permitted his participation.

One of the many “Joys” in Paul’s life was serving others. For years he gave his heart and his leadership to the American Heart Association and became the Southeast Regional Director of AHA. Both Dothan hospitals enjoyed working together with Paul to actively support the mission of AHA.

In 1993, Paul Angeloff was awarded the Rome Betts National AHA Award of Excellence for his exemplary dedication and his great success in community development for the Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi Affiliates. This was the first time an AHA Director from the Southeast region had ever received this prestigious National Award of Excellence!

As Executive Director of the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens, he was instrumental in establishing the Ralph and Carolyn Smith Botanical Center.

A Master Gardener, he cultivated Orchids and Camellias and proudly shared their blooms with many friends in the community. In recent years he helped re-establish the Southeast Alabama Camellia Society, where he served as Vice President.

An avid runner in his younger years, he was President of the Dothan Runners Club. Many will remember his prowess on the tennis court.

A long-time member of First United Methodist Church, Paul served on the Administrative Board, and was a devoted usher at the 11o’clock service for many years. His duties as an usher continued at Southeast Alabama community Theatre performances, where a patron once said “When you get to Heaven, Paul Angeloff will show you where to sit”.

He and Dolores loved traveling and counted Alaska, European River Cruises and Greece as favorite destinations.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Dothan or the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens.
