Obituary for Sammy Ray Bridges

Sammy Ray Bridges, a resident of Taylor, passed away early Tuesday morning, February 9, 2021, at Southeast Health. He was 64.

Funeral services will be held, 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2021, at Mt. Enon Baptist Church with Reverend Tim Wheeler and Reverend Don Tew officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 Monday prior to service time. Flowers are being accepted or contributions may be made to the Mt. Enon Baptist Church Building Fund, 3167 Iris Road, Dothan AL 36301. Sammy was born July 5, 1956, in Ozark, Alabama to Hayden Ray Bridges and Gayle Pennington Bridges and grew up in Ozark. He was a 1975 graduate of Carroll High School. After graduation, he worked with TRW for 16 years. He later worked with Service Machine Company for 28 years. He loved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed flying his ultralight airplane in his spare time. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren who were his pride and joy! During his wife’s illness, Sammy devoted his time and attention as her loving and devoted caregiver. He was a member of Mt. Enon Baptist Church.

He is predeceased by his father, Hayden Bridges.

Survivors include his wife of twenty-one years, Christy Henderson Bridges of Taylor, who also passed away on February 11, one day after their 21st wedding anniversary, which is February 10.

Also surviving are his mother, Gayle Weeks (Charles) of Ozark; a son, Hayden Colby Bridges (Jennifer) of Echo; three step-children, Dustin Blair (Stephanie), Tori Le (Tony), and Dylan Chase Blair, all of Dothan; six grandchildren, Hayden Layke Bridges, Lauren Abigail Bridges, Caden Blair, Carter Blair, Annaleigh Wells, and Ava Blair; two brothers, Gilbert Bridges (Theli) of Ozark and Stanley Bridges (Michelle) of Dothan; many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family in Oklahoma.

Active pallbearers will be Harlee Bridges, Tyler Strickland, Hunter Bridges, David Marr, Dwayne Watkins, and Freddie Watkins.
